Ionic Materials is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated metallurgist to lead the creation and processing development of non-ferrous metal alloys and atomization. The position will provide opportunities to collaborate with highly-talented people in Ionic Materials’ team of researchers and engineers, while also working collaboratively with external partners and customers.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the production, testing, and characterization of non-ferrous metal powders, including zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and other metals. The Metallurgist will be a member of the Ionic Materials’ alkaline R&D team, is responsible for developing metals alloys, their processes, engineering specifications, quality support and metallurgical evaluations. In this role, the metallurgist will also collaborate with other electrochemists, materials scientists and mechanical engineers to implement metal alloys into anodes of electrochemical cells.
- Identify and source the necessary equipment to establish alloying and atomization processes.
- Develop procedures (including appropriate safety measures) to create, test and characterize metal alloys and powders.
- Identify new alloy compositions to improve performance of products.
- Relate microstructures and processes to physical, electrochemical and mechanical properties.
- Design and conduct experiments aimed at enhancing the level of understanding of the performance of products.
- Work with Ionic Materials’ Program Managers on collaborations with strategic suppliers, external partners, presenting progress in alloy development.
- Master’s degree in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience working with metal alloys and powder atomization.
- Strong knowledge of the methodology, tests and equipment used in the microstructural and physical property characterization of metallic materials.
- Direct experience working with zinc, aluminum, magnesium is a plus, with emphasis on interactions between alloy design, processing, microstructure and properties.
- Self-starter, detail-oriented, work well independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to plan experiments, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
- Ability to consolidate technical data into presentations with clear takeaways.
- Ability and desire to perform well in a fast-paced, problem-solving environment.
