SUMMARY:

Ionic Materials is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Research Scientist with a strong experimental background and willing to work hands-on in the lab.   The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of R&D accomplishments in new battery development.  Key responsibilities of this position include optimizing the performance of a rechargeable lithium metal anode battery, particularly focusing on the anode/electrolyte interface.  The position will provide opportunities to collaborate with highly-talented people in Ionic Materials’ team of battery scientists, materials scientists, engineers, and product managers, while also working collaboratively with external partners and customers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience, or M.S. with 8+ years of experience in battery research and development
  • 3+ Years of experience in developing Li metal battery products
  • Strong electrochemical background
  • Solid electrolyte experience preferred
  • Excellent laboratory practices, record keeping and report writing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a highly integrated team
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology and/or statistical methods is extremely desirable
  • Familiarity with advanced analytical techniques to support lithium/electrolyte studies
  • Proactive, self-starting, multitasking, entrepreneur able to excel in a small company environment

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Scientist/ Engineer will be a member of the Ionic Materials’ Lithium Polymer R&D team, contributing to the development of cathode materials and cathode processing, and optimized Ionic Materials’ polymer electrolyte.

Responsibilities:

  • A major responsibility of this position is to focus on the optimization of battery performance, with particular emphasis on optimizing interfacial properties in lithium metal anode batteries
  • Design and conduct experiments to achieve program goals in a fast paced environment
  • Characterize battery components to understand mechanistic details of the lithium anode/electrolyte interface
  • Prepare reports and document results, provide conclusions and next steps
  • Participate in short- and long-term planning processes
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property
