The Sr. Cell Test Engineer will be a key member of the Ionic Materials battery innovation team focused on developing, validating, and commercializing cells based on IM’s polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion energy storage. This team member is responsible for supporting cell-level testing (i.e., electrode making, cell assembly, cell testing), maintaining test labs, and participating in follow-up testing and customer test programs.


  • Support the development of relevant cell designs, sub-assemblies, and testing methods needed for proof-of-concept testing of IM’s polymer electrolyte
  • Set up test fixtures and testing areas per project needs
  • Generate and control test lab schedule, and distribute to necessary stakeholders
  • Able to specify and support deployment of data acquisition systems
  • Support root cause investigations and failure mode analysis to drive design and process changes to improve cell technology
  • Assist on team projects as required
  • Keep the lab safe and clean


  • Degree in Engineering or related field from accredited college or university
  • 4+ years of experience working on Li-ion batteries, experience in lab management is a plus
  • Comfortable working closely with engineers and scientists
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) required
  • Solid communication and organizational skills required
  • Prior experience managing people (up to 2 individuals)
  • Hands-on individual
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot lithium-ion cell testing issues to the component level
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems


  • Develop and validate standard operating procedures for new and routine battery testing
  • Recommend testing methods to the technical team to solve technical problems
  • Work with instrument companies and schedule suggested maintenance

  • Comfortable working in low humidity environment (dry room)
