Awards Program Celebrates Top Innovators, Investors and Companies in the Region

Ionic Materials today announced it has been named the Company of the Year in CleanTech and Energy at the 2018 NEVY Awards, hosted by the New England Venture Capital Association (NEVCA) and presented by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Ionic Materials received this prestigious award for its continued development of the world’s first novel polymer electrolyte for solid-state batteries that addresses the limitations of today’s batteries: safety, energy density and cost.

By replacing the volatile liquid electrolyte used in lithium-ion batteries with Ionic’s solid polymer material, battery makers can tap into previously inaccessible battery chemistries, such as safe lithium-ion, lithium metal, lithium sulfur and rechargeable alkaline systems as well. The advancement in energy storage caught the eye of the NEVY Awards judges, who aim to recognize the top innovators, investors and companies in the New England region.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top innovators in New England by the NEVY Awards,” said Mike Zimmerman, founder and CEO of Ionic Materials. “The recognition is a true testament to the hard work our talented team has consistently delivered. We are excited to continue to grow our company in the Boston area and advance our polymer material for solid-state batteries over the coming years.”

As New England’s premier awards program for the technology, healthcare and life science communities, the NEVYs honor the best and brightest in the region’s venture ecosystem.

“We take great pride in the breadth of innovation and startup triumphs here in New England, and choose to celebrate as many of them as we can at the NEVYs each year,” said Jody Rose, president of the NEVCA. “The competition bar rises each year and 2018 was no exception. We congratulate the hard work, talent and grit displayed by all of this year’s honorees.”
